ABOUT TINY SCHOLAR LITERACY ACADEMY
Our Story and Founder
Tiny Scholar Literacy Academy is a virtual learning academy that is focused on helping families with primary grade children build a strong foundation in literacy at an early age. Through providing resources, tutorials, tutoring services, and more, Tiny Scholar Literacy Academy seeks to guide you in cultivating a love of learning, but overall al love of reading. TSLA is founded by elementary educator Elizabeth I. Oluwakemi.
"When distance learning became the new normal in 2020, I decided to deep dive into learning all I could about maximizing virtual instruction for young children. There were a great deal of negative findings on virtual learning and how it would impact young learners. At first, I was discouraged and overwhelmed, however I thrust myself into technology trainings, did as much research as I could, staying positive even when I found discouraging information. I remembered my WHY; my love of literature and how I wanted to share that with my students. I decided to make sure that they wouldn't miss out on quality instruction during their year at home. Through gently-paced, highly engaging instruction, my students went from nonreaders at the beginning of the year to fluent grade-level readers at the end of the school year. They hadn’t missed out academically, and thanks to fun virtual activities implemented along the way, they hadn’t missed out socially either. That year taught me that a quality virtual education IS possible for early learners. As a result I decided to start TSLA. Through this, I am here to guide homeschool, private school, and public school families to a better, more exciting way of learning to love reading again. I also continue to partake in my passion as I firmly believe that it is my purpose to educate, inspire, and encourage students to dream big, imagine bigger, and create freely and beautifully. I am constantly looking for new ways to engage, enliven, and impact young learners through engaging literacy experiences, as I believe in its potency and power to positively change and enhance the lives of our children, our futures, and, thus, the world. I was brought up on the saying that "A man’s wealth is his children,” but I firmly believe that the world’s wealth is our children, and what better inheritance (Proverbs 13:22) to leave our children with than an excellent educational experience, empowering faith, and exemplars of mentors who unabashedly value both, and believe in them and their dreams.”
